The sight of wheelchairs in the Border Ice Rink is now very common. The Border Wheelchair Club is a very
active club and take part in many local competitions including the
Border League.
The rink is well equipped with ample car park space for wide opening doors, wheelchair ramp into the rink, lift
to upper lounge, wide doors, disabled toilet, wheelchair tables and portable ramps on to the ice.
The "Wheelies" have their own way of delivering the stone and use a buddy system to stabilise the chair during delivery
for greater control.
Special wheelchairs are available at the rink as are the special delivery sticks.
There has to be a big mention here to Jim Buchanan for his hard work in organising the grants and funding for the wheelchair
lift.
